Minnesota Law & Politics has released its annual list of “Lawsuits of the Year.” Among the cases featured in the magazine’s December/January 2010 issue are three matters in which Greene Espel has played a significant role.
John Baker and Kate Hibbard represent the City of Red Wing in a case challenging the constitutionality of the City’s program to inspect rental dwellings for housing code violations. “The purpose of the warrants is simply to determine whether or not the condition of the rental units are in compliance with the city’s housing maintenance code,” explains Baker.
Former inmates allege they contracted tuberculosis while incarcerated at a Ramsey County correctional facility. Working in concert with the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office, Greene Espel isdefending these constitutional claims, including a purported class action, by developing and presenting the medical-legal evidence and public policy arguments at the core of the County’s liability and damages defenses.
And Andrew Luger co-chaired the panel that conducted an extensive investigation of the Metro Gang Strike Force. Some of the activities of the Strike Force are now at issue in one of the “Lawsuits of the Year.”
